Introducing Card Builder: turn AI answers into branded cards.
Give customers something they can scan, compare, and act on. Card Builder turns a connected tool’s results into branded cards, with the layout, content, and next step configured by your team.

What is AI Card Builder?
Assistable’s AI Card Builder lets you design reusable cards for customer conversations. Choose the layout, add details from a connected business tool, and give customers a clear next step. These customizable artifacts make useful answers easier to scan and compare.
A customer asks for a product recommendation. Your agent finds a match. A paragraph can explain it, but the customer still has to pick out the name, price, relevant details, and destination link. A card puts those pieces together in one place.
That is the idea behind Card Builder. Your team decides what information deserves attention and how it should look. The connected tool supplies the values. The agent can still explain its recommendation in conversation; the card gives that recommendation a clear visual form.
What can you customize with Card Builder?
In your Assistable account, open Card templates. Its drag-and-drop editor includes headings, text, images, badges, and link buttons, with stacks, rows, and dividers to organize them. Adjust the card’s width, background, spacing, and corners, then tune typography and colors inside each block.
Use variables such as {{name}}, {{price}}, and {{image_url}} wherever a value should come from the tool result. A field mapping connects each variable to a response path. The same template can display different results without your team redesigning the card for every conversation.
This makes the card configurable in two separate ways: its visual structure belongs to the template, while its content comes from the connected tool. You can reuse a template across several eligible tools. Each tool uses one connected template within its account.
When should an AI answer become a card?
Use text for explanation, nuance, and follow-up questions. Use a card when the customer needs to recognize an item, compare a few important fields, or find a clear next step. They work well together.
| Customer need | Plain answer | Answer with a card |
|---|---|---|
| Explain a recommendation | A natural-language explanation | An explanation alongside a compact visual summary |
| Show the essential details | Details woven into a paragraph | Consistent positions for names, images, prices, or labels |
| Present several results | A written list | A repeated template for each mapped result |
| Offer a next step | A link within the reply | A labeled link button where the channel supports it |
Card Builder controls presentation. Your connected booking, checkout, or business tool handles the underlying action, and the card displays the result it returns. Keep the heading clear about whether you are showing an option or a completed action.
Four useful ways to put cards to work
Product recommendations
Show the product name, image, price, and a link to its details or purchase page. A consistent card helps customers compare returned products without searching through a long reply. The catalog data and destination still come from your connected tool.
Service options
Present a service name, what it includes, and a relevant next step. For a home services team, that might be an inspection option returned by a service lookup. Only show prices and availability that your source actually provides.
Property or inventory results
Bring the image, location, key attributes, and listing link together using the details returned by a tool connected to your existing source. If the tool returns a list, map the list path to generate a card for each item.
Appointment handoffs
Summarize an appointment option or a confirmed booking using the fields returned by your scheduling tool. Make the distinction clear in the heading. Use a link for the next step when needed; the card itself does not create or confirm the booking.
How to build and connect an AI card
Start with one customer decision and one real tool response. A small card with the right information is easier to review than a template trying to display every available field.
Create the template
Open Card templates and choose New template. Arrange the blocks in the visual editor. Give the important fields a clear hierarchy, set your colors and spacing, and use a specific link label that tells the customer what happens next.
Add the dynamic values
Place {{variables}} in the fields that should change between results. For a product card, these might include name, image URL, price, and destination URL. Keep labels and supporting copy fixed when they should stay consistent.
Save and connect a tool
Use Publish to save the template, then choose Connect to tool. Select an eligible tool and paste a sample JSON response to inspect the available fields. That sample supports configuration and preview; it does not execute the tool.
Map fields and lists
Map each variable to the matching response field, including nested paths when needed. If the response contains several results, set the list path so each item uses the template. Review missing fields, long names, images, and destination links before choosing Save connection.
Test the customer experience
Run the real workflow in your intended channel. Check both the agent’s reply and the rendered card, including how the result handles empty data. Confirm links reach the right destination and that image-based delivery still makes sense without interactive buttons.
How cards appear across channels
Design for the place your customer will see the card. The web chat widget displays a card within the conversation, while supported HighLevel messaging paths use images. That difference changes how you present the next step.
Web widget
Rendered cardsIn the web chat widget, cards appear in the live conversation with link buttons. A tool result can display up to 10 cards. Cards are not currently restored when an earlier widget session is reopened.
HighLevel messaging
Static imagesOn supported HighLevel messaging paths for WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and email, cards are rendered as PNG images. A button drawn inside an image is not clickable. Use an appropriately configured follow-up workflow when the customer needs a clickable next step.
HighLevel SMS
Image linkThe SMS path provides a link to the rendered PNG for the agent’s reply. That destination is an image, not an interactive card page. Plan the next action through your follow-up workflow.
Check the experience in your intended channel, including image readability and action links, before rolling a template out to customers. For other deployments, talk with our team about channel support.
Questions teams ask about AI Card Builder
Do I need to code to design a card?
The visual editor handles the layout and styling without custom HTML or JavaScript. Connecting dynamic content requires understanding the fields in your tool’s JSON response, so a technical teammate may help with the mapping.
Can cards use real data from an AI agent’s tools?
Yes. A saved connection maps template variables to fields returned by an eligible tool. The template controls presentation; the tool remains the source of the data. Sample JSON is for setup and preview, not a live data source.
Can one tool result generate several cards?
Yes. Set a list path in the tool connection to create a card for each mapped item. The web widget displays up to 10 cards from one tool result. Messaging channels have separate attachment limits, so test the number of results you intend to show.
Can a card collect a payment or submit a form?
The current button block opens a link, including supported web, email, and telephone destinations. It does not run a tool, submit a form, or provide native checkout. Use the destination system for those actions, and remember that buttons inside PNG images are not interactive.
Is Card Builder the same as an AI knowledge base?
No. A knowledge base helps an agent find information for its answer. Card Builder defines how connected tool results are displayed. A team can use both, but creating a card template does not add knowledge or create a data integration.
